Ordinary Diploma in Commerce

The approach is developmental.  From the inception the students is made aware of the importance of economic literacy and its connections to vocational competency in the many allied areas of business students: the organization, its structure, system, etc., the tasks and responsibilities of management, the dimensions of work, working and worker achieving, the aesthetic value of figures, etc.  As the profile of the graduate student is to emphasize his knowledge, versatility and attitude to administration, he is immediately exposed to class room lectures and on-the-job experience in an effort to strengthen his understanding in areas of responsibility for general administration, the use of accounts and an appreciation for a proper communication system.

This is a two year programme offered at both the full time and part time basis.  Subjects covered are:

Diploma in Administrative Principles and Practices

The philosophy of this programme is to train students for a career in the corporate world primarily in administrative fields.  The main objective is to facilitate extended opportunities for students by retraining for a new career and to develop an interest in any new field.

With the emergence of new technologies and more efficient ways of doing things, the need to recommend an update of the secretarial science programme has become necessary.

General Office Administration – Level 1

To achieve the Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) in this programme requires completing 13 mandatory units and 5 electives.  This programme will teach administrative assistants how to provide support for all types of organizations and businesses and their staff members. Their duties can include general clerical tasks, such as drafting documents and answering telephones, as well as administrative jobs, including scheduling and project management.
