This is a two year full time programme devoted to sensitizing the student to domestic buildings, small commercial and industrial buildings.  This programme is aimed at training students for the Building and Civil Engineering area and gears the student for University of Guyana Faculty of Technology.  Subjects covered in this programme are:

Technician Certificate in Building and Civil Construction Part 1

This is a two year day release programme (one full day a week) geared at the student who is employed in industry and commerce.  The student, who is expected to have a maximum of two years’ experience, will be exposed to the practical aspects of construction.  Subjects covered in this programme are:

Technician Certificate in Architectural Drawing

This programme is a two year programme conducted in the evenings.  It is a means of communicating ideas, concepts and details, and requires drafting skills in modern and traditional methods of architectural drawing.  Subjects covered in this programme are:

Masonry – Level 1

To achieve the Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) in this programme requires completing 18 mandatory units.  This programme is a highly durable form of construction where the student is exposed to brickwork, concrete practice and stone to construct elements.

Masonry – Level 2

To achieve the Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) in this programme requires completing 30 mandatory units. This programme is a continuation from Level 1 and the student is further exposed to brickwork, concrete practice and stone to construct elements.  One must complete the Masonry Level 1 programme in order to do the Level 2.

Plumbing – Level 1

To achieve the Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) in this programme requires completing 15 mandatory units. The student will be exposed to installing and maintaining water systems, pipes, tanks, fittings, and other apparatus required for the water supply, heating, and sanitation in a building.

Plumbing – Level 2

To achieve the Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) in this programme requires completing 33 mandatory units. The student will be further exposed to installing and maintaining water systems, pipes, tanks, fittings, and other apparatus required for the water supply, heating, and sanitation in a building. One must complete the Plumbing Level 1 programme in order to do the Level 2.

Furniture Making – Level 1

To achieve the Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) in this programme requires completing 22 mandatory units.  This programme will teach all about the process of designing solid timber furniture concepts and then turn them into reality.

Furniture Making – Level 2

To achieve the Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) in this programme requires completing 24 mandatory units.  This programme will further teach all about the process of designing solid timber furniture concepts and then turn them into reality.  One must complete the Furniture Making Level 1 programme in order to do the Level 2.

General Construction – Level 1

To achieve the Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) in this programme requires completing 11 mandatory units. This program will demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to competently preform in the construction industry.
